Do You Have What It Takes?
Hi! Thank you for visiting our website. My name is Ian Jones and I am founder of On The Bump™. I have resided in the Las Vegas valley for over 24 years. Having worked with 500+ students individually and worked with thousands of kids at numerous camps on the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii, I am trying to give back to this sport as much as I gained from it. Competition has increased over the years since my little league days and I would like to see all kids enjoy baseball as much as I did throughout my career. Because I didn't start pitching until my freshman year in high school, I never knew how much fun it was to pitch - and know I was learning from the best in town. For nearly 5 ½ years, I have been involved with Pitching Instruction. In August of 2003 many parents encouraged me to take things to the next level and therefore, I looked into consulting as a pitching instructor. For this reason I originally started up OnTheBump™.

On The Bump™ is something fun, and rewarding from the my standpoint as an instructor. Slowly baseball around Las Vegas valley is making a name for itself. With the goal of helping pitchers achieve their maximum potential while teaching them the importance of staying healthy and conditioned, I hope to see the effects of our baseball training and the players' hard work assist in putting Las Vegas on the baseball map. On any given day during the baseball season you can go to a baseball complex and witness the majority of players lacking a fundamental approach to the games the play in. In understanding that being a great coach is not easy, I certainly support all coaches in their efforts. Whether its finding a private instructor, going to the local indoor batting cage facility, going out to a park, or working in your backyard; all coaches with playing experience beyond high school baseball will agree that 'extra work' is required to become better players. An affective coach/instructor should make that point an emphasis when teaching players.

Beginning with my Senior Major Green Valley Little League All-Star team that placed 3rd in the United States and 4th in the World, I quickly learned that the competitive aspect of baseball, particularly pitching, was my forte. I was fortunate enough to play for Nevada's most heralded high school coach, Rodger Fairless. It was at Green Valley High School that I learned much of the competitive philosophy I live by today. During my career at GVHS, the school won 4-straight 4A Nevada State Baseball Championships and the wins extended to 9 State Championships in 11 years. My GVHS career win-loss record for High School and Legion was 50-2.

Thereafter, I went on to play Division 1-A College Baseball for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Baseball team for the 1998 to 2000 seasons. While there, I tied the career mark for Most Relief Appearances in the school's history. Leading in both my Freshman and Sophomore seasons in pitching appearances, I was heavily relied on and enjoyed pitching in various roles - from being a spot starter, to long relief and even to closing out a game.

While I had a great passion for pitching, my future in baseball was put on hold after I suffered two elbow surgeries due to overuse during my first two years in college. After enduring two elbow surgeries after college, I then started consulting as a pitching instructor through On The Bump. Although we cannot assist every player in Souther Nevada, we look forward to helping those willing to give us a chance.
